Liberty Village just grows more and more every minute, as this Monday, October 31st, we're going to be able to see Liberty Village's Bike Here! program launch twelve new bicycle racks, and three clusters of secure storage lockers, to make this neighbourhood friendlier to cyclists!
The bicycle is an integral part of Toronto life, and thinking of life in Toronto without it is like thinking of the skyline without the CN tower, or the 93 Jays without Paul Molitor. Just not right. With that being said, it's great to see steps being made to ensure Liberty remains a cycle-friendly zone, where pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers can all share the road with respect.
The twelve new bicycle racks aren't the old fashioned ones you might be used to, but artist designed pieces, reflecting the creative spirit of the community. The designs were submitted late last year to the Bike Here! Committee, and those designs are featured on the central panels of the new racks.
Each of the twelve racks is a beautiful combination of form and function that both allow the cyclists to admire local artists, while granting reliable, safe storage space. In addition, the three bicycle storage lockers will give cyclists who really prize their rides, an extra level of security and convenience. Safer than a rack, and easier than keeping them in your office, these bicycle lockers will be available for monthly rent for a nominal fee from the LVBIA.
Liberty Village is a neighbourhood on the grow, and the inclusion of these new bicycle facilities for both residents and commuters working in the neighbourhood is proof enough of the Liberty's community's commitment to this growth.
The new bicycle racks will see an unveiling on Monday October 31st, at 9:30AM, at the corner of Liberty St. and Fraser Ave.

Toronto's own House of Moments is casting for Art for Love, an upcoming reality TV competition looking to find the next top artist in Toronto, and we're hoping one of our many neighbbours in Liberty Village can pip the top prize. House of Moments is funding the whole effort, and this studio is serious about tapping into up and coming artists for this show. House of Moments is a mixed media visual arts gallery in Toronto's own Leslieville, with a dedication to finding new, original artworks, with a focus on living in the current moment.
Based on the American 'Work of Art' television series, the show will be filming in January, and House of Moments is hoping to help find 50 finalists, who will go on to have their art featured in the show. Over five hundred competitors have already put themselves forth.
Artists are frequently derided and misunderstood in popular culture, and this competition and TV show should hopefully give the artists of Toronto some of the attention and exposure they need to keep their craft alive. While we're sure that we'll see the usual crowd of young artists from Kensington Market and Queen West will be well represented, wouldn't it be great for them to get beaten by one of our own from Liberty?
We'll definitely be paying close attention, once this competition really gets started in January. For now, though, artists can still pre-register for the casting process, taking place on October 29th and 30th at the House of Moments. To enter, artists must bring their most 'loved' piece of original visual art, to the House of Moments on either of those two days, and be ready for the scorn and praise of the judges. The only restrictions are that the works be a piece of visual art. Doors are open from 9AM to 9PM, and will be judged by a panel of artists, critics, and curators, who will pick only the best.
The winner, will be declared Toronto's Next Top Artist, along with a massive promotional push in print and online. Perhaps most appealing? The promise of $25,000 for the eventual winner. Just think of all the paints and canvases that could buy... Pre-Registration for the casting session happens online here.

Brought to you by Ontario’s very own, The Beer Store is launching its newest retail venture in Liberty Village later in the month of June called "The Beer Boutique". Located right across from the Metro in a brand new, never touched spot, not only will patrons have the same wide range of beer to choose from, but they’ll also be able to purchase beer in smaller packs, and even mix and match with custom cardboard carriers.
And if that isn’t reason enough to check it out, The Beer Boutique will feature regular tasting and pairing events. We all know that food and drink go together, and The Beer Boutique will let you discover new brands and match great foods with each one.
